USDDPP empowers decision makers to create policies that deliver deep decarbonization and a vibrant economy. We supply the concrete data and tools stakeholders need to break the climate change impasse.
Our modelling software, databases, methods, and assumptions are 100% open source and available for independent verification. Along with others, we believe: more openness in energy modelling increases transparency and credibility, reduces wasteful double-work and improves overall quality; transparency allows scientists and analysts to advance the research frontier and gain the highest benefit from energy modelling for society.
We also believe transparency is a fundamental requirement for building consensus on long-term decarbonization strategies, and that verifiable data enables change. Open and trustworthy analytic tools discourage self-interested positioning and can help build the trust we need to develop workable win-win climate solutions.
USDDPP provides the concrete data and analytical tools stakeholders need to break the log jam on addressing climate change.
In additional to our landmark national reports, EnergyPATHWAYS models and Deep Decarbonization Pathways (DDP) analysis are supporting energy transition strategies in California, Washington, and New York. We will be announcing additional regional DDP collaborations between USDDPP and local energy and business stakeholders soon.
We're about making this happen, we don't just write reports -- we collaborate with agencies, regulators, businesses and other stakeholders to make decarbonization happen. Our analysis demonstrates a range of technically viable, cost-effective steps we can take now to create a vibrant low-carbon energy economy for tomorrow.
Our EnergyPATHWAYS tool models the entire energy system for a geography from the bottom-up, by tracking primary and final energy use, CO2 emissions, and energy system costs across four end use “energy demand” sectors (residential, commercial, industrial, and transportation) and three “energy supply” sectors (liquid fuels, pipeline gas, and electricity). To ensure that electricity reliability requirements are met and that the costs of balancing electric power system output, particularly intermittent renewable generation, with electricity demand are accurately accounted for, EnergyPATHWAYS includes a fully integrated, hourly dispatch model of regional power systems.
EnergyPATHWAYS is the best modelling software in the business. We count everything and take into account everything – all at very fine resolution.
USDDPP is not aligned with any ideology, political party or movement on the right or the left, nor are we aligned with any incumbent non-governmental organization (NGO). We are an independent, data-based organization dedicated to helping governments, agencies, regulators, businesses and other climate stakeholders create and implement practical and effective decarbonization solutions.
We are an independently funded 501(c)(3) that does not participate in the news cycle, and our stakeholder engagement is conducted under the Chatham House Rule. We are designed and maintained as a national center of excellence for deep decarbonization science, data, and policy tools dedicated to breaking the climate change log jam and enabling consensus climate action.
